Let’s Talk About It: The Stigma of Sex After 50

For many, reaching 50 feels like a milestone. But when it comes to sex, there’s a lingering belief that the best days are behind us. Nothing could be further from the truth.

A 2021 study revealed that 35% of people over 50 report a stronger sexual desire than in their youth. Why? The pressures of career-building, child-rearing, and financial stress start to ease. This newfound freedom allows couples — and individuals — to focus on themselves, their desires, and their pleasure.

Yet, society continues to stigmatize this stage of sexual exploration. Women are often labeled as “past their prime,” while men feel pressured to perform like they’re in their 20s. These stereotypes are not just outdated — they’re harmful.
